About Betty

“I want all the children of Texas to have the opportunity to gain a quality education in a safe environment. I want our children to inherit a Texas where business is free from unnecessary government interference and those who are willing to work hard will have the opportunity to succeed. Like my neighbors in Henderson and Kaufman Counties, I believe we must help those who are truly in need while encouraging self-reliance and independence.”

-State Representative Betty Brown

First elected in 1998, Representative Betty Brown is currently serving her fifth term in the Texas House of Representatives, representing Henderson and Kaufman Counties. She is a Kaufman County native.

Representative Brown was appointed Vice Chair of the Redistricting Committee and was also appointed to the Local and Consent Calendars Committee for the 80th Legislative Session. Speaker Tom Craddick appointed Brown to serve as Chairman of Budget Oversight for the Agriculture & Livestock Committee for the 78th, 79th and 80th Legislative Sessions, a position which places her on the Appropriations Committee. The Speaker has appointed Representative Brown to the Legislative Library Board. The board administers the Legislative Reference Library an independent agency of the Legislature. Betty has also been appointed to the Agriculture Policy Committee, and serves as a member of the Republican Caucus Policy committee.

Representative Brown has been recognized for her excellent conservative voting record by many organizations including Free Enterprise PAC of Dallas, Eagle Forum, and the Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce. Representative Brown currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute.

Representative Brown and her husband, Ron, own and operate a ranch near Terrell on land that has been in her family for four generations. They have three children and seven grandchildren. A graduate of Terrell High School, she attended SMU in Dallas.

Representative Brown has been very active in the community and in her church. She is an emeritus member of the Kaufman County Historical Commission and is a member of Kaufman County Republican Women, Henderson County Republican Women, Lone Star Republican Women, and of the Cedar Creek Republican Club. She has worked many years in grassroots politics and volunteered time to lobby for conservative issues at the local, state and national level. Brown has also held many leadership positions including serving on the state board of the Texas Federation of Republican Women.

Concern for her grandchildren was one of the primary reasons Representative Brown decided to run for State Representative. She wants all the children of Texas to have the opportunity to gain a quality education in a safe environment. Betty also wants our children to inherit a Texas where business is free from unnecessary government interference and where those who are willing to work hard will have the opportunity to succeed. She wants to help those individuals who are truly in need in a way that encourages self-reliance and independence while, at the same time, seeing that those individuals who can't help themselves can access the help they need.

Life experience has served to re-enforce Betty's belief in the importance of family. She believes any legislation that is good for Texas families is good for Texas.
